A visit to a zoo took an unexpected turn after a tourist appeared to tease a giraffe by repeatedly pretending to feed it, only to pull the food away at the last second.
In the footage shared on social media, the woman approaches the giraffe with food in her hand, making the animal believe it is about to be fed. However, just as the giraffe reaches for the food, she pulls it away. She repeats the same move several times, seemingly treating it as a joke.
But eventually, the giraffe appears to lose patience. The animal reaches toward the woman, grabs her hand with its mouth and pulls her toward the enclosure, leaving her startled.
The incident is also a reminder that animals are not toys and should never be deliberately provoked. Even animals that appear calm and are accustomed to people can react unexpectedly when they feel frustrated, threatened or when food is involved.
Animals have instincts and emotions too. They can become stressed, impatient or aggressive, especially when they are hungry and repeatedly see food being offered and then taken away. What may seem like harmless fun to a person can be confusing or frustrating for an animal.
Visitors at zoos should always respect the animals, follow the safety rules and avoid teasing them simply for a video or a laugh.
Sometimes a harmless-looking joke can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.
