My Husband Drained Our Daughter’s College Fund for a Luxury Trip with His Mother – When He Walked Back Into the House, He Froze

Greg drained our daughter’s college savings, took his mother to Italy, and left Sharon crying on the stairs. Two weeks later, he returned expecting us to forgive him. Instead, the sight inside our home made his suitcase fall from his hand.

Greg froze in the doorway as though he had walked into a stranger’s house.

Carol, standing behind him, collided with his back and complained under her breath about people who stopped suddenly.

Neither stepped inside.

A folding table now stood where Carol’s antique console had once been.

Three laptops were open across it, surrounded by scholarship applications and neatly organized forms. Against the dining-room wall, a whiteboard displayed deadlines written in green marker.

Nursing program, October 12.

Engineering scholarship, October 18.

FAFSA workshop, Saturday.

Near the hallway, two teenage girls carried a box marked CAREER CLUB toward the guest room.

Carol stared after them.

“What are those children doing here?”

One girl briefly glanced over before continuing down the hall.

Greg’s suitcase slipped from his hand and hit the floor.

The expensive leather landed with a heavy thud.

His fresh tan made the anger spreading across his face look almost ridiculous.

I calmly closed the binder in front of me.

Across the dining table, Sharon sat beside a freshman, helping her sort recommendation letters into color-coded folders.

She did not immediately acknowledge her father.

First, she carefully labeled another tab.
