Millions of retirees and Social Security beneficiaries across the U.S. will receive a 2.8% increase in their monthly payments under the 2026 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).
For the average retired worker, this means about $56 more per month. Disability beneficiaries, survivors, and SSI recipients will also benefit from the increase.
However, many Americans say the additional money still isn’t enough to keep up with the rising cost of groceries, rent, prescription medications, and other everyday expenses. For many families, the increase is welcome, but it still falls short of covering the true cost of living.
