President Donald Trump spoke about the plane incident involving Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron during a May 30, 2025, press conference at the White House.

When asked if he had any marriage tips from one world leader to another, Trump smiled and replied, “Make sure the door remains closed. That was not good.” His comment sparked laughter throughout the Oval Office.

After the laughter settled, Trump gave a quick update on the couple’s well-being. He said he had spoken with the French President and confirmed both he and Brigitte Macron were doing fine.

“They’re two really good people,” Trump noted, though he added he was not sure what had happened between them. Even so, he made it clear they were okay.

While Trump kept things light during the press event, people online also had plenty to say about his comment. Someone called it “very good advice,” while another person described it as “a very wise answer.”

More reactions quickly followed, with social media users continuing to share their thoughts on the moment. One person praised, “Trump is so diplomatic here.” Another chimed in with excitement, “Make sure the door remains closed…best advise!!! [sic].” One individual echoed, “Great advice!”

Someone else admitted, “Good answer! First time I agree with him!” A different person added a thoughtful take, “I think he really didn’t know what to say and didn’t want to comment on something when he didn’t know the facts, he wasn’t there, so instead he made a light joke. It wasn’t ‘marital advice.'”

Before those comments took over the internet, it was the video itself that caught everyone’s eye. In May 2025, during the start of their Southeast Asia trip, French President Emmanuel and the First Lady, Brigitte, arrived in Vietnam.

A brief video captured the moment the plane door opened, showing the president standing in the doorway. Just seconds later, his wife’s hands appeared from the side and seemed to push against his face in what looked like a sudden shove.

Though the politician looked surprised, he quickly smiled and waved at the press. As they stepped down the stairs, he offered his arm to Brigitte, but she chose to hold the railing instead.

At first, the Élysée Palace denied anything unusual happened. Later, they said it was nothing serious. A source close to the president disclosed in an interview that it was simply a small argument.

Another source called it “a moment of togetherness,” adding, “It was a moment when the president and his wife were unwinding one last time before the trip began, playfully teasing each other.”

The same source also pointed out that some people, especially pro-Russian accounts, tried to turn the moment into something it was not.

Not long after the video made headlines, Emmanuel decided to speak up while in Hanoi. He responded to the growing chatter:

“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it.”

The 47-year-old confirmed the video was real but took issue with how it had been used. “The videos are all real, and yes, sometimes people tamper with them, but people are attributing all kinds of nonsense to them,” he said.

While the head of state cleared the air about the plane video, he was also caught in another storm of false claims spreading online. Not long before, the Élysée had slammed a baseless story that gained traction on social media.

The rumor, pushed by pro-Russian accounts and even echoed by Kremlin figures, accused Emmanuel of using cocaine during a train ride to Kyiv with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The claim centered around a crumpled tissue the politician picked up, which was wrongly labeled as drug-related. In response, the Élysée shared a firm message online that said:

“This is a tissue. For blowing your nose… When European unity becomes inconvenient, disinformation makes a simple tissue look like drugs.”

Russian official Maria Zakharova added to the noise, suggesting it showed deeper issues in Europe. French leaders pushed back strongly, calling it another attempt by Moscow to spread lies, divide allies, and twist facts about Ukraine for political gain.
