A tragic and chilling series of attacks has shaken Minnesota, leaving longtime State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, dead in what authorities are calling a politically motivated shooting. The violence began around 2 a.m. Saturday when State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot multiple times at their home. Both survived after undergoing emergency surgery.

Less than two hours later, police conducted a welfare check at the Hortman residence in Brooklyn Park, where they encountered a man impersonating a police officer. As officers approached, the suspect opened fire and fled following a brief gunfight. No officers were injured. Rep. Hortman and her husband were found fatally shot in their home.
