After 19 years, the CEO’s son-in-law thought firing me at 9:14 am would end my career, but he never knew the one name that could destroy his confidence: Clara Tennant…

Part 2

By 10:03, the first supplier was calling my personal phone.

By 10:17, the European license renewal had bounced.

By 10:29, the warehouse system had locked three outbound shipments because nobody knew the override code Mr. Tennant created after the flood of 2014.

At 10:41, Preston called me.

I let it ring.

At 10:44, HR called.

I ignored that one too.

At 10:52, Graham Tennant finally called.

I answered from the coffee shop directly across the street, my cardboard box sitting on the chair beside me.

“Clara,” Graham said, voice tight, “there seems to be confusion.”

Mr. Tennant was my uncle.

Preston had never asked.

Nobody had.

To them, I was simply the woman who knew which loading dock flooded, which client still needed handwritten invoices, and which regulator would answer a phone call after five.

“Clara,” Graham said carefully, “please come back so we can discuss this.”

“I will discuss it with the board.”

Preston laughed.

“You don’t have board access.”

At that exact moment, my attorney sent an email to every director.

The subject line was simple:

Emergency notice from Clara Tennant.

Preston stopped laughing.

Then Graham whispered, “Tennant?”
