Kimmel Returns to Late-Night With Tearful Message For Erika Kirk

In his first broadcast back after a nearly week-long suspension, ABC host Jimmy Kimmel addressed the controversy surrounding his comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. He directly expressed that he never intended to make light of the murder.

Kimmel stated he understood the public reaction to his previous remarks. He acknowledged that his timing or message may have felt inappropriate or unclear to many viewers.

The late-night host clarified that it was never his intention to blame any specific group for the actions of the shooter. He emphasized that the assassin was a “deeply disturbed individual.”

He expressed empathy for those who were upset, noting that he would likely feel the same way if the situation were reversed. Kimmel admitted he had no illusions that his explanation would change anyone’s mind about him.

During the broadcast, Kimmel became emotional while discussing Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk. He highlighted her public forgiveness of the man accused of killing her husband.

He described her forgiveness as a “selfless act of grace” and a “very beautiful moment.” Kimmel, stating his own Christian faith, held it up as an example for the nation to follow.

He concluded by hoping that this act of forgiveness would be the primary legacy carried forward from the tragedy. Kimmel said her gesture had touched him deeply.
