Being a single mom was never part of my plan. My husband left when our daughter, Lily, was three, and I’ve been raising her alone ever since. Lily and I stood in shock as the same man stepped out clean-shaven, wearing a suit, and carrying a small paper bag. He explained that he had been going through unimaginable grief and had lost hope. Lily’s simple act of kindness gave him the strength to rebuild his life. He returned to his family’s company and created a foundation to help single mothers and children in need.Then, he handed me an envelope to cover Lily’s education through graduation. He also arranged for a new car and a job interview for me. Finally, he knelt in front of Lily and handed her the paper bag. Inside was a bottle of lemonade. “I figured I owed you one,” he said with a smile. As he left, Lily waved and shouted, “Bye, lemonade man!” That night, I held my daughter close, realizing that one small act of kindness can ripple outward and change lives including ours.
