Hamstering’ is the new sex trend going viral

TikTok’s latest bizarre trend, “hamstering,” mixes public antics, sexual experimentation, and automotive acrobatics. The act involves one partner, naked from the waist down, sticking out of a car’s sunroof while the other performs oral sex from inside. The term comes from the awkward posture hamsters use to drink from a water spout—head tilted and tongue extended.

Though it sounds like a comedy sketch, the trend has gained traction with TikTok reactions and mock tutorials. Sex columnist Zachary Zane and educators Amy Baldwin and April Lampert agree: it’s more about novelty than pleasure. The act demands awkward, uncomfortable positioning and serious core strength—not to mention the risk of injury or public exposure.

Why the buzz? It’s the absurdity and social clout, not the intimacy. Experts emphasize that while it may offer a laugh, it’s not a sustainable or satisfying experience.

One key tip if you’re tempted: put the car in park.
